Road Trip Day 2
Thursday October 29
So on this day we finished traveling through TN and in addition go through OK, TX and New Mexico. We had to stop and get a pic with the largest cross in the western hemisphere and did some night scoping for the Cadillac Ranch. They moved the exhibit recently closer to 40 so more people could experience it. With no light, no signs and no directions what so ever to this place, it was a miracle that Rod saw it from the van, going 70 miles an hour, in the dark. Needless to say, we turned around and pulled up to the peace gate next to the highway. It was totally dark...only the moonlight to guide us and you could tell it was somewhat muddy. So with brand new shoes, I headed out with Rod for about a football fields length of slippery, muddy walking and to our surprise, another group of people were not too far behind us, doing the same thing. It was well worth it though...check out the shots. We ended the night by pulling off at the Historic Route 66 road and got a few shots along the way. We decided to stay for the night and bedded down at the Historic Route 66 Motel. While talking with the motel owner and joking about wanting to stay in Radiator Springs from the Cars movie, he informed me that we were. It just so happened that the exit we took for Route 66, was the exact one that the movie had been based off of. Pretty sweet cowinkidink. The room was complete with an authentic old school feel to it....very nice and clean.
