Freak Show 9 presented by DropJaw

Out of the 9 years that we have been holding our annual Freak Show, 5 of the years have been held in Kinston, NC. Something about the place just feels right. The one thing that doesn't feel so right is the road blocks that the Highway Patrol have been setting up the past couple of years, down the road from the show grounds. Now we do understand that the cops have to do their jobs and would never ask any less, but the fact that they target the Lenoir Co. Fairgrounds when ONLY we are there for our event makes us just a little upset. It doesnt happen when the fair goes on or any other event....just ours. And the biggest thing is that we have many people who come from over 20 other states, whos vehicle laws are usually very different from ours, dont get any kind of slack at these road blocks. Seatbelts and other safety measures are understandable, but to pull out a tint meter on stock windows and to just be very unreasonable about a lot of different things is taking it a little too far. We got together with the Free Press which is Kinston's local paper, and we made the front page the very first day the show was open. This IS Kinston's largest event that happens in town and DropJaw brings a whole lot of revenue to all the businesses in and around town. Our crowd flows well out out and around just Kinston. Now just so everyone knows, the town of Kinston, it's business owners and the Kinston Police do not have any problems with Freak Show coming to town....this is strictly a Highway Patrol thing. The chief of police said they had no problems that they had to deal with the entire weekend except for having to clear some custom rides out of a private parking lot one time....and he said that wasnt even a big deal what so ever. Anyway, we wanted to let all of you know that we are talking with the town and any and everyone involved in the town about this event because we want things to get better in the future and not worse with us having to leave again. We like Kinston and we feel like everyone that attends Freak Show likes Kinston too. We are gonna do everything we can to help this situation out for next year but for the time being, go to www.kinston.com and check out the articles that are provided there about all of this. If you would like to comment or send in an email, be sure to do so in the upmost professional manor.

As for the show....as it always does, Freak Show surprised us and had a great year. Even with the recession issues and everything else to boot, people still gotta get their "Freak" on once a year. We more than doubled the amount of vehicles that participated in the show part of this event and of course still had a load of cruize vehicles that came through the gate just so their rides could be closer to the action. We doubled the seperate showfield up this year and made it the family field as well, where you could bring your kids out to enjoy the hundreds of hot rides that were in attendance. This seemed to work out great as we did see some people out with their kids there with them. We also introduced some best of show cash this year, giving away $2000 to the best of show winners....not to mention the other $3000 and a free set of wheels that we gave away to the RNR Custom Tour top 3 winners. People poured into the grounds as early as Thursday at noon, for those pre-registrationers, and then as always the gates opened to everyone at midnight. And with out gates never closing, there was a constant line of rides coming into the show, right up till early Sunday afternoon. The VIPs were in abundance as well and had a great spot for being able to get front and center to the stage action. Cruizin' went well into the night as it does here and the campsites were poppin' until early hours of the mornings. This year we had Skeeter (The Ladder Bitch), pass his ladder off to the next Ladder Bitch and by the time next years Freak Show happens, we will have his name ready to go. There was also a different presence in the beer pong tournament as legendary Big Dave ended up being the beer pong ref. We also have a new DropJaw DJ, Disco,  who has been doing some of our other stuff like The Big Show & Draggin' Nats and this was his first dip into The Freak......he will never be the same. Glad to have you on board. Animated Attractions in their comeback year and also their 20 Year Anniversary, took the well earned Club of the Year title this year....glad to have you guys back in force. We have to give very special thanx to all of the Freak Show participants and clubs that came out and represented as only you can....there is no Freak Show without you Freaky attendees. Be looking out for much more on Freak Show Ten....we have a lot in store already. See you all this winter on the WCT10.
